Credit card companies cut limits

Nearly 2 million UK consumers have seen the limits on their credit cards reduced in the last sixth months, so providers can ensure they don't spend significantly beyond their means and are unable to repay the debt.

The research, carried out by MoneyExpert shows that providers stand to save £3.1 billion of credit by slashing allowances.

The UK is currently experiencing a credit crunch as providers tighten up their lending conditions making it harder to get loans and credit cards approved.

A spokesman for MoneyExpert commented, "Credit card companies are becoming stricter in who they lend to and the amount of money their customers can borrow."
