Credit card debt increases in second quarter of 2008

The number of consumers experiencing credit card debt in the UK is increasing, as more people turn to plastic to pay off household bills and other outgoings.

Figures from Apacs have shown that British consumers have spent a total of £96.2 billion in the second quarter of 2008, which is 7.5% up on last year's numbers.

The total figure for outstanding balances increased by £1.8 billion, showing that more people are spending on their credit card without any hope of paying off the balance in the immediate future.
