Credit card debt lower in December

The amount of credit card debt built up in the UK over the Christmas period was at its lowest for some time according to Apacs.

We in the UK spent 32.2 billion over the festive period on plastic, but the amount of transactions and spending on credit cards specifically was down.

20.9 billion of the total was spend on debit cards as more consumers decided to pay out of their own money instead of borrowing from providers.

Sadra Quinn, director of communications for Apacs commented, "Consumers are thinking more carefully about their debt and what they can afford to borrow."
