British consumers who are struggling with mortgage repayments should eliminate credit card debt to ensure they have the cash to cope with the increases in the base rate.
That's the view of Alliance and Leicester who say that many families in the UK are employing this tactic and successfully keeping up with their mortgage repayments.
Credit card debt does however remain a massive problem for many UK consumers, and is set to only get worse as Christmas looms ever closer.
